Frequently asked questions
How is reading time calculated?
Reading time is estimated by dividing your word count by an average silent reading speed of about 200 words per minute. Speaking time uses a slower pace of about 130 words per minute, which reflects a comfortable spoken delivery. Both are estimates and will vary with the difficulty of the text and the individual reader or speaker.
How do you count words?
Words are counted by splitting your text on spaces and line breaks, so any run of non-space characters separated by whitespace counts as one word. This matches how most word processors and writing tools tally words.
Is my text stored or uploaded?
No. The counter runs entirely in your browser, so your text is never uploaded, stored, or sent to any server. When you close or refresh the page, the text is gone.
Does it count characters with or without spaces?
Both. The tool shows two separate character counts: one that includes spaces and one that excludes them. This is useful because different platforms and limits measure characters differently.
Can I use it for tweet or meta description limits?
Yes. The live character count makes it easy to stay within limits like a tweet, an SEO meta description (around 150 to 160 characters), or any field with a maximum length. Just watch the character count as you edit and trim until you are under the limit.
